Well, as the saying goes, adjust your degree of personal paranoia to
suit.
To me, 'outsourced' sounds like 'delegated to someone you have no reason
to trust', and 'in the cloud' sounds like 'delegated to someone you have
no reason to trust and whom you don't even know'.
When I need to do syncing among multiple devices, I tend to do it using
facilities I personally own and operate. When I need to make files
available to me remotely while I travel to different places in the
world, I tend to do that via a Linux-based Internet server I personally
own and operate.
