My first reaction, was that replacing the HD was making this project way too complicated.
Then I realized that if I had worked as a store clerk instead of using many hours backing up this and that partition I could have paid for a new drive.

And, if I get an SSD, I will save more time in the future. THANK YOU DANIEL.

So where should I go shopping?
* Central Computer
* Fry's  (probably not)
* Newegg
* cheapest price on eBay or Amazon
* other?

What brand?
* SanDisk
* Samsung
* other

A couple of years ago, various companies had proprietary technologies for SSD.

A few brands really were better. That may no longer be the case.

Screw all that and just swap the hard disk. That way, you keep the
original as a backup.

If you want to run Windows under KVM, I repeat from my message on
Friday: Take a serious look at GNOME Boxes.
