Thank you for the reminder that major technology firms have
overwhelmingly been enthusiastic partners in the surveillance state.  

One of the many interesting tidbits Snowden revealed early on is that
many of the major tech firms (not to mention the telcos) had voluntarily
and secretly given NSA massive and ongoing access to customer data --
and that the list of cooperating businesses and the nature of NSA's
relationship with them is among its most closely held secrets.  

And it makes sense for there to be extreme political sensitivity about
that:  The spooks could not possibly do an effective job at spying on
the populace without extensive participation by major corporations -- 
a sufficient reason to trust such firms not at all, if we didn't already
have a bunch of those.

The current Apple court case is nonetheless significant and worth 
pursuing.
