Odds are JHU that didn't really mind a bit.  

Medical trivia:  While working at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Carson was famous
for, among other things, reviving the hemispherectomy operation that had
become almost unknown since the early 1970s (because of unacceptable
complications and side effects).  

Rumour has it that, shortly before beginning his primary campaign, Dr.
Carson re-tested his famous hemispherectomy method on himself -- twice.
