If you look at my email address, it is obvious that I am a member.

Email forwarding is one small benefit in that it allows oyou to change to a different email service without having to tell everyone to change their address book.

In the San Francisco, there are a lot of local meetings for different specialties. More than 40 meetings some months. The calendar can be found at http://www.e-grid.net/ Sorry I don't know the web-sites for other locations.

I encourage everyone look at the calendar and attend meetings about topics you find interesting.

The other main benefit is networking with people in the industry, which can lead to job offers and other business related connections.

Most meetings are free, but occasionally there is a dinner meeting, so read the details. A lot of "starving students" have been know to attend meetings that offer free pizza!

You do not need to be member to attend. The policy is you find meetings worthwhile, you will consider membership.

Hope that answers the question.

Paul

Ruben,

A friend of mine is involved in IEEE and has been for many years. I
checked with him and he states that you are welcome to speak directly
with him if you like about becoming a member and what IEEE has to offer.

Partial discussion quote:

"If the guy wants to join IEEE, and is in one of the fields where IEEE
is involved, I strongly recommend it. You can refer him to me if he
wants to ask questions. I've been a member for 35 years, and there
are a number of benefits that are available thru the organization."
