[conspire] TeX better than LaTeX?

I read somewhere on the net about a year ago that Knuth prefers TeX over LaTeX.

Now I cant find it:
google: knuth opinion of latex

If memory serves me right, Knuth says, TeX is optimally easy to use
over its feature set.

LaTeX is too complicated.

I'm willing to buy that opinion based on just how I need to manipulate
the shift-key when I type LaTeX.

Any of you Linux Mafia have an opinion on TeX better than LaTeX?
