Or not.  Roger's actual question concerned a point of law:

Some product identities used in commerce are trademarked (which in the
USA can be either Federal registration or just common-law), and some
aren't.  The correct answer to Roger's question was 'Yes, Linux is a
specific trademark of Linus Torvalds's.'

It's not a problem that you're digressing onto something radically
different, but that is not 'the original topic'.
