You're always welcome to bring computers with hardware problems to our
gatherings, but it's anyone's guess whether someone will will be present
who can help you solve such problems.  So, you can certainly give it a 
try, but no promises.

I'm always really impressed at people who can solve problems with
laptops' monitors just not working at all, because that's past my 
own level of hardware competence.  Many a laptop has, in my own
experience, reached the end of the road because its LCD screen died or
cracked.

If that ends up being the case, you _could_ look in the usual places
(eBay, Craigslist, Halted) for a replacement screen as a used-parts
purchase.  Of course, before doing so, you should at the bare minimum
cross-check the VAIO with an external monitor (such as the ones I have)
to make sure the problem's not something wrong elsewhere in the machine.
