Thank you Rick for your patience. I got the hint about email programs re-formatting spread sheets.

This was Rick's suggestion:

> Device Size(GB) Type Mountpoint within Linux
> /dev/sda1 300 NTFS /windows
> /dev/sda2 2 swap n/a
> /dev/sda3 100 ext3 /
> 98 None -- unallocated
> total sda: 500

This is what I attempted to convey:
                                                 Linux mount
/dev/sda1          20        NTFS     /windows
/dev/sda2           2         swap     n/a
/dev/sda3        100         ext3      /
/dev/sda4                                   not applicable
/dev/sda5        200        NTFS      /win_data_backup
/dev/sda6        150        ext3       <Linux_backup>     (need better name)
rest                ~28         --           not allocated
total sda         500

/dev/sdb1           2         swap      n/a
/dev/sdb2        100        ext3        /usr
/dev/sdb3          30        NTFS     /win_aps
/dev/sdb4          50        NTFS     /win_data_1
rest                ~18        --            not allocated
total sdb         200

/dev/sdc1          2         swap       n/a
/dev/sdc2         20         ext3        /var
/dev/sdc3         30         NTFS      /win_data_2
/dev/sdc4         50                       /win_backup_2
rest               ~18         --            not allocated
total sdc        120

AND it has the "problem" of more than 4 partitions on the first drive.
I
will have to think about that.  Maybe combine backing up both windows data and Linux data in one big
partition in a format that "works" for both OS's.   Interesting how
Linux has adapted to handle NTFS, while MS will not recognize ext3.

Besides, thinking is all I can do right now.  The men are working in
trees over my power lines.  Not a good time to do an extensive disk
operation...
