Googling on the e-mail address, one finds that hirohama at gmail.com is
Kenji Hirohama.[1]
Who's "Michael", by the way?
I cannot put my finger on exactly why (or, rather, on all the reasons
why), but I find that people who don't bother to set the "name" fields
in their e-mail clients problematic. It's really nice to have an actual
name and not just an e-mail address -- and somewhow it's easier to
respect the author, and you get at least the illusion that there's a
person behind the words who's willing to stand behind what he or she
says.
In saying that, I mean absolutely no offence to Kenji, of course.
[1] In Japanese, as with Hungarian and a number of other languages,
surnames come first, so Kenji would actually give his name in Japanese
as "Hirohama Kenji". (Once, I was momentarily confused when I came
across references to a foundation for musical studies in Budapest called
"Institute Liszt Ferenc", until I remembered that Hungarians put
surnames first, and that given name "Ferenc" is often rendered for
foreigners' benefit as "Franz".)
