To my knowledge that is a setting.  I've been doing inserts with 
the MYSQL 5+ versions with the same Perl DBI insert statements as
always and all the emails I've been storing, including a database
of all my mail, have continued to just take things in without
needing to add any ACID statements.  

I don't promise anything about rollbacks.
