OK. However, I'm sure that the Ubuntu people intend for you to use
some corresponding function within "update-manager" for that purpose:
It's supposed to be a single-piece package management system. (I'm
unclear on whether it calls dpkg to do actual package insertion and
removal on the local system, but my understanding is that it
_definitely_ doesn't call apt-get or aptitude to fetch packages and
resolve their dependencies.)
