My mother has an Epson flatbed scanner (about 20" long in the
front-to-back dimension) that has the really terrible misfeature of
having a small rocker AC switch hidden on the right side near the very
back, along the bottom edge. All they really needed to do was have it
go into a trickle-power standby mode, but no -- it requires you to
continually fumble for a power switch in about the worst possible,
least-obvious place.
So, it's definitely not just HP.
