Well, frankly, back in the day, it didn't actually _require_ a CIA
press-manipulation plot to get Stewart Alsop, Joe Alsop, the Henry Luce
rags, and so on to indulge what we'd now call "talking smack" on
international affairs. They would have done it anyway.
The nice thing about actual names of actual people is that they can have
reputations. Stewart Alsop had one -- such that I would have politely
said "consider the source" if someone referred me to one of his stories
for a fact on his personal authority. AP's Matthew Lee has one these
days, too -- and I'd personally consider it a rather better one.
But adjust your own level and targeting of paranoia to suit, as always.
I expect nobody here is going to pontificate where TRVTH about world
affairs can be gleaned from certified-correct inscriptions -- and this
isn't a political-bloviation forum anyway: I hope that nobody reads my
passing response to Ruben, making a quite verifiable correction on a point
of _philology_ (in his not-really-a-press-release), as licence to bore
us all with your political views.
