It's a quandary, and I am sympathetic. My personal solution is
multiposting, i.e., a separate message to each mailing list addressed.
There are just too many things that can go wrong after you crosspost
among multiple lists. (I could come up with a list if I worked at it,
but am keeping this comment short.)

Yes, that does require a little more effort. If you have a long list,
it _is_ scriptable with any decent MUA. (If people are curious, and
ask, I'll be glad to work out how to do it with mutt, and post that
solution somewhere.)

I also am personally disinclined to send attachments of any sort (other
than crypto signature blocks, on rare occasions). If I want to point
people to a picture file or an iCal file or whatever, I make that file
Web-accessible somewhere[1] and inline the URL in my message, instead.

(I'm specifically _not_ speaking as listadmin because I'm not seeing a
significant problem anywhere here, and would much rather be relaxed
until there is, and just have a friendly attempt to discuss what the
best approach should be.)
