It is possible to use LinkedIn responsibly, if you
treat it as a tool for letting other people who have
already chosen to use LinkedIn help you keep your
contact info on them up to date.  It's also possible
to use it in an annoying way (inviting non-users to
register) and in a shortsighted way (never downloading
your contacts in a format that you can use in your
own mailer or addressbook application.)

(There's a "Rick Moen" on LinkedIn who's in the
building trades in Minnesota, but if you look at
his profile page, the Google ads are for Bay Area
IT consulting.)
