Q: Why does Linux crash when I remove an external SCSI tape or Jaz disk?

If I attach or remove an external tape drive or Jaz disk, the SCSI bus resets and then hangs. I have to reboot.

A: The SCSI bus cannot support hot additions or removals of SCSI devices. You'll need to halt the system to remove or add SCSI components.
